FORT MYERS, FL (July 11, 2005) - The Fort Myers Miracle offense was blanked for the ninth time this season as they lost 1-0 to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Monday night at Hammond Stadium.

Both starters were magnificent as two of the lowest scoring teams in the Florida State League squared off. Miracle starter Nick Blackburn hurled seven scoreless innings allowing five hits while walking two and striking out seven. He got out of the biggest jam of the night in the seventh inning that looked like it would give the Miracle momentum.

Blackburn gave up back-to-back singles to Ty Parker and Matt Dryer to lead off the seventh. With Terry Evans trying to sacrifice the runners over, Blackburn hit Evans to load the bases. He then got Matt Pagnozzi on strikes and induced Simon Williams to ground into a double play to get out of the bases loaded no out jam and keep the game scoreless.

Jan Granado relieved Blackburn, and after a scoreless eighth, gave up a run in the ninth. Brian Martin led off with a double to left-center. With one out he went to third on a passed ball by Kyle Phillips and scored on an RBI single from Evans for the only run of the game.

Cardinals starter Jose Garcia was sterling going eight shutout innings allowing three hits while walking one and striking out nine.

Garcia gave up just an infield single to Matt Tolbert in the first, which was followed by a double play, an infield single by JR Taylor in the seventh which was also followed by a double play and a single to center by Brock Peterson which extended his hit streak to eight.

The Miracle didn't have a runner further than first until the ninth, when against Cardinals closer Mark Worrell, Ron Perodin led off with a walk. Tolbert sacrificed him to second and went to third when JR Taylor hit a grounder to first that Andy Schutzenhoffer made a diving play on and threw to Worrell covering first. Moses ended the game by flying out to center.

Phillips' 10 game hit streak ended when he went 0-3.

The same two teams meet Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle send RHP Adam Harben (6-4, 2.62) to the hill against Cardinals RHP Michael Parisi (1-2, 3.31) to the hill.
