Jacksonville Icemen News Release
Jacksonville, FL - The Jacksonville Icemen, proud affiliate of the NHL Winnipeg Jets and AHL Manitoba Moose, today announced the signing of rookie forwards Colton Veloso and Jake Randolph to ECHL contracts for the 2018-2019 season.
Veloso joined the Icemen late last season, skating in the final 4 games for the first-year club, following the culmination of his juniors career. "I'm very excited to be a part of the Icemen organization. [It's a] great city, great fans, awesome organization, so I couldn't be happier," said Veloso. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 187-pound forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba, spent several years in the WHL (Western Hockey League--a major junior league) where he most recently played for the Kootenay Ice, notching 47 points (25G, 22A) in 71 games.
"Colton's a young kid that came in at that end of the year and showed a lot of promise," said coach Jason Christie. "He's a good team guy that works hard every night. We're excited to have him."
Jake Randolph also joins the Icemen as a rookie, having played in 11 games with the Worcester Railers last season, following a collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The 5-foot-9, 191-pound forward from Duluth, Minnesota, tallied 26 points (7G, 19A) in his final season at Nebraska-Omaha, and 3 points with Worcester (3A).
A rookie in the ECHL is defined as any player who has played less than 25 regular season games of professional hockey.
The Icemen open their second season on Saturday, October 13th at Veterans Memorial Arena against the South Carolina Stingrays. The puck drop has been moved up to 7:00 p.m. ET for all games, except Fridays and Sundays, when the start time will remain at 7:30 p.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. ET, respectively.
