Pair of Bucs Earn Weekly Honors

Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers' are proud to announce that a pair of first year players have received weekly honors announced by the United States Hockey League on Monday afternoon. Rookie goaltender Billy Christopoulos was named Reebox Co-Goaltender of the week and first-year defenseman Jimmy Roll was selected as the CCM Defenseman of the week.
Christopoulos and Roll played an integral part in the Buccaneers' weekend sweep, defeating Omaha 6-2 on Friday and downing previously unbeaten Muskegon 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday.
Christopoulos was in net Saturday for the shootout win stopping 47 of 49 shots and denying two of three shootout attempts to earn his first career Junior A victory. The Raleigh, N.C. native played last season for the Chicago Young Americans midget program. He shares this week's honor with Waterloo's Cal Petersen.
Meanwhile, Roll potted his first goal of the season in the Friday win and assisted on another during Saturday's victory. The first-year player from Western New York, spent the last two years playing Junior A hockey in the Ontario Jr. A Hockey League.
The Buccaneers return to action this Friday night at home against Team USA (U17) beginning at 7pm with $1.50 Miller Lite available for purchase for all guests 21 and over.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are in their 33rd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
