Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - A pair of big innings were too much to overcome for the Biloxi Shuckers (52-52, 18-19 2nd Half) in a 14-5 loss to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (61-55, 20-17 2nd Half) on Friday night at MGM Park.
Two errors came back to hurt the Shuckers in the top of the fourth inning. Logan O'Hoppe singled to begin the frame but LHP Brandon Knarr (L, 1-5) struck out the next batter he faced before a single by Jeremiah Jackson put two men on base. A fielding error by Thomas Dillard allowed a run to score. A two-RBI triple extended the Trash Pandas lead to 3-0 and another fielding error allowed one more run to score, making it 4-0 Rocket City.
Biloxi finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth. Cam Devanney started the inning with a single and Dillard doubled to deep center to put two men on base. Felix Valerio singled on the infield, driving in Devanney to put Biloxi on the board at 4-1. Gabe Holt grounded out to bring home Dillard and an RBI single from Brent Diaz pulled the Shuckers' within a run at 4-3. LHP Nick Jones (W, 2-0) entered with two outs and needed just one pitch to record the third out and strand the tying run at first.
Knarr finished his night by allowing just one walk over his final two frames. All told, the southpaw went six innings and allowed just two earned runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Rocket City put the game out of reach with an eight-run seventh on four walks and five hits. The Shuckers scored two more runs in the contest on an RBI groundout by Tristen Lutz and a wild pitch that brought home Gabe Holt in the ninth.
The Shuckers continue their six-game series against the Trash Pandas on Saturday night at MGM Park. Biloxi is slated to start RHP Victor Castañeda (2-5, 3.87) opposite Trash Pandas RHP Mason Erla (4-2, 3.28) for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
