Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Montgomery Biscuits have split a rain-soaked doubleheader that started on Thursday and finished early on Friday.
Runs were hard to come by early in game 1 as Montgomery jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings. The home team were finally able to get on the board thanks to a two-run fourth. 20-year-old phenom Elly De La Cruz got things going with his fifth home run of the season, before Alex McGarry and TJ Hopkins teamed up for the second run of the frame. It came on McGarry's 9th double of the season, driving home Hopkins from first base.
The Biscuits didn't wait long before continuing their offensive assault, plating three more in the fifth inning. Chattanooga weren't going to finish things quietly, with Allan Cerda and Daniel Vellojin kicking off the inning with back-to-back walks. Cerda would soon come home to score on Matt McLain's 45th RBI of the season.
The Lookouts second baseman McLain would later score himself on De La Cruz's second extra-base hit of the night and his 8th double of the year. The Lookouts weren't able to keep the momentum going though, with the Biscuits wrapping up an 8-5 victory.
Things were a lot better for the home fans in the second game of today's twin bill, with McGarry's 15th Double-A home run accounting for the Lookouts only two runs of the game. Two managed to be enough though, as Montgomery were only able to muster a single run off of Lookouts pitching. Starter Joe Boyle looked great in his Double-A debut, fanning six over 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball. A hard liner off outfielder Niko Hulsizer that struck Boyle's lower leg was the only thing that soured his night, with the right-hander exiting the game as a precaution.
Relievers Ryan Nutof and Pedro Garcia weren't going to let the lead slip however, combining for 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball, with Nutof picking up his fourth victory of the season and Garcia his 8th save of 2022 and his first since July 28.
The two teams will continue their series later tonight with first pitch at 7:15 PM. Friday's game is the Lookouts 8th Annual Agriculture Night featuring a pre-game petting zoo and postgame fireworks.
