Pair of 20-Point Performances Not Enough against Nets
February 17, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
REUNION, FL - February 17, 2021 - The swingmen duo of Ignas Brazdeikis and Louis King of the Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, contributed 24 and 22 points, respectively, but the Knicks dropped a 123-115 outcome to the Long Island Nets, Wednesday afternoon, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.
The first quarter reflected a 33-up line and despite the seven-point separation at half favoring the Nets (2-3), 66-59, the first half saw nine lead changes and nine even scores. The stark difference-Long Island shot 62.5-percent from three-point territory containing the Knicks to just 36.8-percent beyond the arc. Kaiser Gates shone by the intermission with a game-high 15 points for the Nets.
The third quarter mimicked slight role reversals with Westchester (2-3) owning a 66.7-percent clip from the outside while Long Island shot just 30-percent in the category. King shot perfect in the window going 5-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-3 from downtown for a game-high 13 points in the frame. The Knicks outscored the Nets by nine and at the conclusion, led by two 89-87.
The fourth quarter got away from the Knicks, though it did not start that way. In waning time, Long Island pinned a double-digit deficit to the Knicks and Westchester's staggering offensive and defensive schemes dissolved any hint of a comeback.
Brazdeikis' team-high 24-points were attained on 50-percent shooting (10-of-20) and accompanied by eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. King's 22 points were 57.1-percent shooting (8-of-14) and 50-percent from three in his return to the starting lineup.
For Long Island, Gates' ended with 22 points. Reggie Perry's 25 points lead all while he also grabbed 11 rebounds.
Westchester and G League Ignite play tomorrow, February 18 at 7:00 PM ET.
