Three Colorado Springs pitchers shut out the Tucson Padres Friday, 3-0. It was the second time the Padres have been shut out this season.
Charlie Blackmon gave Colorado Springs an early lead on an RBI double in the first inning off Tim Stauffer. The Sky Sox added another run in the fourth and Lars Davis' solo home run in the seventh put Colorado Springs ahead, 3-0. The Padres had opportunities to score in the game, but went hitless in ten at-bats with runners in scoring position. The Padres out-hit the Sky Sox 7-6 in the contest with Rene Rivera compiling a game-high three hits.
Starting pitcher Justin Berg pitched six scoreless frames and earned the win in his Colorado Springs debut. Reliever Nick Schmidt tossed two shutout innings before handing the ball over to Coty Woods in the ninth. Woods picked up his second save of the year. Stauffer lost his second game for Tucson, allowing two earned runs in six innings of work.
