Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
Missoula, MT. - The 'Peanut Inning' is always a highlight for fans attending home games at Allegiance Field at Ogren Park. Fans hope that the Missoula PaddleHeads will manage to scratch a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning so that free peanuts will rain down upon them. Missoula would do that, and much more in a pair of victories on Friday night to complete a three-game sweep of the Boise Hawks.
With the game tied at 3 entering the bottom of the sixth in Game 1 of the twin bill, Missoula's sixth inning magic begin with a five-run barrage. Highlighting the inning was an RBI double from Zach Almond, and a tworun single from Jared Akins as the PaddleHeads took an 8-3 lead. It would be just part of a fabulous offensive night for Almond who finished 3-for-3 with home run and three driven-in. The Hawks would put a pair of runs on the board in the seventh to make it a bit interesting, but it would prove to not be enough in an 8-5 win for Missoula.
Three runs in the top of the first inning for the Hawks gave them an early 3-0 lead opposite Domingo Pena and the PaddleHeads. The native of the Dominican Republic would settle in over his next four innings pitched however allowing only one hit in that stretch to keep the PaddleHeads within striking distance. Pena would strike out six over five innings of work allowing three runs.
Both offenses would get out to a slow start in Game 2 with neither team bringing a run across over the first four innings. Missoula would jump on top first in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run single from McClain O'Conner, but the lead would prove to be short lived.
Tyler Jorgenson would do damage for the Hawks in the next half inning tying the game on a triple into right center fielder that just got past a dive of Brandon Riley. Jorgenson would later score on an RBI single from Bo McClintock to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead. Luckily for the PaddleHeads more sixth inning magic would be in store.
The PaddleHeads would send 10 batters to the plate as part of a four-run rally to put Missoula on top for good to highlight a 6-3 win. Nick Gatewood brought home a pair of runs in the inning on a single and would finish 1- for-3 in the game. The PaddleHeads brought at least 10 batters to the plate in the sixth inning in all three games opposite the Hawks. Missoula has also scored runs in the sixth inning in eight consecutive games.
The two victories for the PaddleHeads (26-10) coupled with a loss from the Idaho Falls Chukars (24-12) gives Missoula a two-game advantage in the Northern Division standings. The PaddleHeads will now hit the road for their next nine games. Missoula will kick off the road trip with their first visit to the Electric City to square off with the Great Falls Voyagers (16-20). First pitch on Saturday night is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Listen to all the action on ESPN Missoula 102.9 F.M.
