Published on June 30, 2008 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Today the Pacific Coast League front office announced that Albuquerque infielder Dallas McPherson and Oklahoma pitcher Dustin Nippert have been named PCL Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, for the period of June 23-29th.

McPherson earned a spot in the PCL record book last week by hitting a home run in seven consecutive games to tie the modern day record set back in 1977 by Claude Westmoreland of the Albuquerque Dukes. McPherson is only the fifth minor league player to homer in seven straight games, a feat last accomplished by Dan Collier of the Tulsa Drillers in 1997. The Greensboro, North Carolina native's top performance of the week occurred on June 26th against the Iowa Cubs when he went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. The former second round draft pick in 2001 by the Los Angeles of Anaheim is currently hitting .311 with a league leading 28 home runs and 60 RBI.

Nippert, made history in his only start of the week by throwing the first no-hitter in Oklahoma franchise history. The 6-8 right-hander accomplished the feat in the first game of a doubleheader against the Omaha Royals June 29th. The 27-year-old West Virginia native struck out five batters and worked around two walks and an error in seven innings. Nippert was drafted out of West Virginia University in the 15th round of the 2002 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He improved to 6-and-2 on the season with a 3.98 ERA.
