Orange County Flyers News Release

The 2600 plus in attendence Saturday night in Fullerton were waiting for Band for TV concert but witnessed a show on Goodwin Field as the Orange County Flyers (5-6) edged out the Edmonton Cracker Cats (9-4) 8-7 thanks in large part to firstbasemen Fernando Pacheco.

It was the bat of Pacheco that spurred the Flyers offense, blasting a three run homer to the previously untouched Eric Van Slyke that got the Flyers back into the game after trailing by six.

Pacheco continued the assault, eventually launching the game winning homer in the bottom of the eighth and finished with five RBI and a perfect 4-4 evening.

Andre Simpson gave a dazzling performance throwing 140 pitches over seven innings and keeping his Flyers in position to win the game.

Pat Breen and Jermy Acey also came through at the dish for the Flyers with Breen driving in a key pair of runs in the sixth and Acey posting a solid 3-5 night.

Dane De La Rosa pitched a solid ninth to earn his eighth save of the year.

Ezequiel Ruvalcaba picked up the win to improve to 3-2 while Dan Touchet got hung with the loss dropping to 1-2.

Both teams have Sunday off before the Flyers welcome the other Canadian team, the Calgary Vipers, to Goodwin Field for a second half battle of first half champions.
