Potomac Nationals News Release

The Potomac Nationals split a doubleheader with the Salem Red Sox Wednesday night in Woodbridge and took the series two games to one. Potomac has now won five of six, nine of 12 and remains four games over .500 in the second half. After dropping the opener in extra innings, 3-2, the P-Nats rode Danny Rosenbaum's impressive debut in the nightcap to a 4-1 win.

In game one, Jordan Zimmermann had yet another successful rehab appearance for the P-Nats. He pitched four more scoreless innings, yielding just two hits and striking out four. Over his four starts in Potomac, Zimmermann went 13 innings without surrendering an earned run. He yielded just 11 hits, struck out 13 and, remarkably, did not walk a single batter.

The P-Nats spotted Zimmermann a two-run lead. Michael Burgess hit his 10th home run of the season to lead off the second. In the fourth, consecutive singles by Dan Lyons and Jose Lozada set the table for the P-Nats' second run. After Josh Johnson grounded out for the second out, Michael Lee threw a wild pitch to the backstop to make it 2-0.

A.J. Morris struck out a pair in his first inning in relief of Zimmermann, but got into trouble in the sixth. A pair of one-out base hits, including a run-scoring double from Peter Hissey, scored Salem's first run. A chop single in the infield by Will Middlebrooks tied the game.

The game stayed knotted into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Clayton Dill worked into trouble. A lead-off single by Drew Hedman led to a sacrifice bunt by Luis Segovia - that he got while down with two strikes. A Dill wild pitch moved Hedman to third, and he scored on Hissey's sacrifice fly. Pat Ryan then worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the victory.

In the nightcap, Rosenbaum dazzled in his Carolina League debut. He faced the minimum in the first three innings with three strikeouts and a double play, his eleventh of the season.

The white-hot Tyler Moore staked Rosenbaum to a first-inning lead with a two-run homer. Moore is now 15 for his last 24 with four home runs, six doubles and 15 RBI.

The P-Nats padded their lead with an unearned run in the third inning. After a one-out walk and a stolen base by Robby Jacobsen, Segovia booted a ball at shortstop. On the next pitch, Johnson rocketed a ball to left field and it was 3-0.

The Sox got a run back in the fourth when Oscar Tejeda singled in Mitch Dening, who led off the frame with a walk. Moore was right in the middle of a rally that got the run right back. Moore doubled to left to open the fifth and scored on the next pitch when Bill Rhinehart singled to left.

Dan Leatherman pitched the last two innings for his 11th save.

The P-Nats take off for a seven-game road trip tomorrow, beginning in Winston-Salem at 7:05 p.m. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45 p.m.
