Potomac Nationals News Release

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Winning is contagious for the Potomac Nationals. Their winning ways continued Monday night with a 10-4 victory over Lynchburg for their eighth consecutive win.

The offense once again proved its potency by recovering from an early 4-1 deficit and scoring nine unanswered runs. Every player in the starting lineup tallied at least one hit in the game. With the game tied 4-4, the P-Nats surged for five runs in the sixth inning. Edgardo Baez led off with a double and Seth Bynum walked. Manager Randy Knorr was willing to give up an out when Michael Martinez laid down a bunt, but pitcher Charles Benoit (0-1) threw wildly to first base allowing Martinez to reach safely. Jemel Spearman, Ofilio Castro, and Frank Diaz all doubled as the Nationals batted around in the inning.

Potomac starter Adrian Alaniz only made it through four innings for the second consecutive outing as he struggled to consistently find the strike zone. The young right-hander surrendered runs in the first three innings and escaped the fourth by stranding two runners after striking out Angel Gonzalez.

Dee Brown knocked out his first home run of the season as the Nationals provided a surplus of runs, and the bullpen shut down any hope of a Hillcats comeback.

Reliever Jack Spradlin (1-0) recovered from his last outing with three impressive shutout innings in which Lynchburg managed just one hit. Adam Carr overpowered the Hillcats during his two-inning stint by striking out the first four batters he faced.

The P-Nats have scored at least eight runs in four consecutive games. Potomac has now won 10 straight games against Lynchburg dating back to 2007. The eight-game winning streak is the second longest since Potomac became an affiliate of the Nationals.

The series continues tomorrow night as Cory VanAllen makes his second start of the season and third outing opposite Tony Watson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
