Providence Bruins News Release
Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins shutout the Worcester Sharks 4-0 Thursday night. Carter Camper, Scott Campbell, Anthony Camara, and Seth Griffith scored for Providence, while Niklas Svedberg recorded 34 saves for his first shutout of the season.
Coming off a four day holiday break, the P-Bruins found their rhythm early at the 3:33 mark of the opening period to make the game 1-0. Camper controlled a loose puck off the wall and wristed it by Sharks net minder Troy Grosenick for his fifth goal of the season. Griffith and Justin Florek picked up the assists. The P-Bruins made it 2-0 at the 17:55 mark as Campbell scored shorthanded on a breakaway, his first goal of the season. Providence led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
Worcester put the pressure on early in the second period, but it was Svedberg and the P-Bruins defense that held on strong and it was the defense that helped the P-Bruins score their third goal of the game. At the 6:16 mark, off the rush, Camara passed the puck to Craig Cunningham as he entered the zone. Grosenick stopped the initial shot by Cunningham, but Camara grabbed the rebound and slotted the puck home into the empty net for his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission leading 3-0.
The third period was completely domination by Providence as the P-Bruins controlled the puck and played sound defensive hockey with the three goal lead. At the 13:02 mark of the period, the P-Bruins converted their first power play of the game as Griffith tallied his seventh of the season, with Cunningham and Camper assisting on the play. The P-Bruins went onto the 4-0 victory.
Svedberg finished with the 34 save shutout for the P-Bruins, while Grosenick made 28 saves for the Sharks. Providence went 1-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Providence continues its five game road trip Saturday in Adirondack against the Phantoms at 7:00pm and Sunday at the Springfield Falcons at 3:00pm. The P-Bruins wrap up their road trip Tuesday in Manchester against the Monarchs at 7:00pm before returning home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 3 at 7:05pm against the Sharks. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a poster courtesy of J & R Marketing. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home games visit www.providencebruins.com .
