
P-Bruins Open Training Camp September 22

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, released their 2006 training camp schedule. Camp will open Friday, September 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Rhode Island Sports Center, Rte. 146; North Smithfield, RI and run through Tuesday, October 3. The Bruins will also have three pre-season games as part of the pre-season schedule, beginning on Wednesday, September 27 versus the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m. at the Boss Arena on the University of Rhode Island campus. The full training camp schedule will follow this release.
The Providence Bruins also announced the Boston Bruins invited defensemen Peter Hafner, Jonathan Paiement and Jay Pemberton and forwards Ned Havern, Dan Sparre and Mark Tobin to P-Bruins training camp.
Hafner, 23, spent the past four seasons at Harvard University, where he had 22 points (17g, 5a) and 84 PIM in 129 career games. Last season the Summit, New Jersey native captained the Crimson and during his freshman season was named Co-Rookie of the Year. Hafner was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers with their tenth pick, 232nd overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Havern, 23, split last season with the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters and Syracuse Crunch and the ECHL's Trenton Titans and Stockton Thunder. In 75 games, the Arlington, Massachusetts native had 49 points (23g, 26a) and 44 PIM. Prior to turning pro, Havern played four season of college hockey at Boston College. In 151 career games he had 57 points (28g, 29a) and 58 PIM. The left wing was originally the Dallas Stars twelfth pick, (ninth round), 273rd overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Paiement, 21, spent the past five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Sherbrooke Beavers, where he had 206 points (49g, 157a) and 653 PIM in 334 career junior games. The Montreal, Quebec native was second among QMJHL defensemen in assists with 51 during the 2004-05 season and fourth among QMJHL blueliners in scoring. Paiement was originally drafted by the New York Rangers with their eighth pick, 247th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Pemberton, 22, spent the past four seasons at Providence College, where he had 46 points (11g, 35a) and 112 PIM in 135 career collegiate games. The Cumberland, Rhode Island native won three Rhode Island state championships with Mount St. Charles. Pemberton was originally drafted by Florida with its sixth pick, 124th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Sparre, 21, enters his second professional season. Last year, he split the season with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers. In 53 games, Sparre had 23 points (12g, 11a) and 24 PIM. Before turning pro, the Brampton, Ontario native spent three seasons in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads and Victoriaville Tigers, where he had 180 points (95g, 85a) and 186 PIM in 203 career junior games.
Tobin, 20, spent the past four seasons in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanics, where he had 155 points (78g, 77a) and 504 PIM in 272 career junior games. Last season, the St. John's, Newfoundland native was second on his team in scoring with 51 points (26g, 25a) in 67 games. Tobin was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning with their second pick, 65th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The Providence Bruins' home opener for the 2006-07 season is October 13th versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
