Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins kicked off a six-game homestand with a 5-2 defeat to the Lowell Devils Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, snapping a three-game home winning streak. Providence got goals from David Krejci and Ben Walter.

The P-Bruins controlled the tempo in a scoreless first period in which they out-shot the Devils 15-8. Lowell struck first, however, in the second frame with a power play goal scored by Dan LaCouture, his first of four points on the afternoon, putting the Devils ahead 1-0 4:07 in the period. Assists on the play went to Dan McGillis and Mike Mottau. Providence evened the score at one just over three minutes later while short-handed as the rookie Krejci stole the puck from the neutral zone and walked it in on Lowell netminder Frank Doyle for his team-best 24th tally of the season. The Devils, though, proved they could score while short-handed as well, lighting the lamp with a two-on-one breakaway towards P-Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen at the 12:57 mark of the middle period. Tuomas Pihlman had the goal, his eighth, helped along by LaCouture and Mottau, giving each multiple-point days.

Lowell jumped out to a 4-1 lead with a pair of goals in the first 8:10 of the final period, scored by LaCouture, his seventh of the year, and Olivier Magnan, his first, just under six minutes apart. Walter added a goal for Providence, bringing his team back within two at the 10:50 mark, his 21st goal of the year while T.J. Trevelyan and Nate DiCasmirro earned the assists. The Devils put the game away with 20 seconds left as David Clarkson took advantage of an empty net and scored his 17th goal of the season. LaCouture had an assist on the play.

The loss ended Toivonen's personal four-game winning streak as he stopped 24 shots in 58:32 minutes of work. Doyle earned the win with 34 saves in a full 60 minutes. Providence out-shot Lowell 36-29 overall.

On the man-advantage, the P-Bruins were scoreless in three opportunities while the Devils converted once in four tries as the penalty minute edge went to Providence, 20-8.
