P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 2-1 to Even Series at One

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 2-1 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Vladimir Sobotka and Jeremy Reich. The series is tied at one. The P-Bruins continue the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Cumberland County Civic Center Sunday versus the Pirates at 4:00 p.m.

After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:02 mark of the second period. Johnny Boychuk banked the puck off the boards down the ice for Brad Marchand. He found Sobotka in front of the net, who tallied his first goal of the playoffs. Providence went into the second intermission leading 1-0.

In the third period, the Pirates tied the game at one at the 3:33 mark, with a shorthanded goal. Tyler Bouck netted his first goal of the playoffs with Derek Whitmore recording the lone assist. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 10:32 mark. Adam McQuaid held the puck at the point and sent it down the boards for Wacey Rabbit. He found dropped the puck off for Reich, who skated into the right faceoff circle and scored his first goal of the post-season. Providence went onto the 2-1 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 27 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 38 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 0-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
