Penguins take series lead with 3-2 win

UNIONDALE, NY - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins raced out to a 3-0 lead, then held on to post a 3-2 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Game One of the East Division Semifinals on Friday night. The teams will meet in Game Two back at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 7:00pm on Saturday evening.

Chris Minard and Dustin Jeffrey got the Pens going with power play goals in the first period, and Luca Caputi stretched the lead to three goals midway through the game.

Trevor Smith got the home club on the board with a shorthanded shot that beat John Curry, and Rob Hennigar drove the net and deflected a Mike Iggulden feed to cut the lead to one goal for the Penguins at the end of 40 minutes.

Curry was solid, stopping 15 shots in the final frame to preserve the win. The victory was his 15th postseason win with the Penguins, a new team record.

NOTES: The Penguins are now 9-12 in Game Ones of playoff series, 4-7 on the road...The Penguins have never led a playoff series against the Sound Tigers prior to Game Seven until tonight...The Penguins are now 23-30 all-time in road playoff contests.
