Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - On Wednesday, Sept. 2nd the Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, announced that former White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen will be the team's guest manager for the game. The CornBelters take on the Evansville Otters at 6:35 p.m.

The idea of having a guest manager came from the CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. Carey is excited to have Guillen out to the Corn Crib.

"It is a great honor to have a true champion and a good friend of mine to manage our ball club," said Carey. "He is a true baseball guy and with the CornBelters in a pennant race, there is no doubt the Ozzie will do a fantastic job."

Guillen managed the White Sox from 2004 to 2011 and led them to a World Series title in 2005. He's been out of baseball since managing the Miami Marlins in 2012.

"I'm glad that I can help Brooks and this great group of guys that I get along with so well," said Guillen. "The only bad part is that I can't use the number 13 because I can't persuade the guy."

Guillen's son, Ozney wears the number 13 and is the CornBelters right fielder. He has not been coached by his dad since he was in high school.

The CornBelters are home all week to finish their final homestand of the season before their first ever trip in the Frontier League playoffs. The magic number to clinch the Frontier League West Division title is just one. Wednesday is also Mental Health Awareness Night at the Corn Crib.

THE NIBLET: The CornBelters return home for the final six games of the regular season starting Tuesday! On Thursday, the Belters will wear special jerseys to benefit Marcfirst presented by The Snyder Companies. Sunday's regular season finale is Fan Appreciation Day! For tickets or for more information, please contact the CornBelters today at (309) 454-2255 (BALL) or stop by The Mid-Illini Credit Union Box Office at The Corn Crib during normal business hours.
