Ozuna Walkoff Sac Fly Gives Dillas Dramatic 8-7 Win

AMARILLO, TX - Rafael Ozuna came into Sunday's game with a .182 average, but he left with a three hit game including a walkoff sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to give the Amarillo Dillas an 8-7 win over the Laredo Broncos in front of 2,848 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Matt Smith (1-2) got the win as he pitched a hitless ninth and struck out two batters. Broncos reliever Jason Herman got the loss as he allowed the winning run to reach in the ninth inning. Dillas batter Carlos Figueroa went 2-5 with two runs, including the winning run, while Keanon Simon went 2-3 with two runs, including a solo homerun in the effort.

Laredo got on the board in the first as David Cardona lead off with a double and scored on an error. Jamie Morales scored on a Argelis Nunez single for a 2-0 Broncos lead.

Amarillo would respond in the first as Terrance McClain singled with the bases loaded to score both Keanon Simon and Andrew Wong. Carlos Figueroa and McClain would also score on the play as the ball went past the left fielder for a three-run lead. Amarillo would add one in the second as Willie James scored on a Wong double play. Amarillo would add another run in the third with an RBI double by Ozuna to give the Dillas a 6-2 lead.

Simon hit his third homerun of the season in the sixth to move the Dillas up by five, Laredo would respond in the top of the seventh as Cardona tripled and scored on a Morales single. Mario Mendez reached on a fielder's choice later in the inning, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error to bring the Broncos within three at 7-4.

Dillas starter Taylor Allen left after the seventh and gave way to reliever Andy Noonan in the eighth. The Broncos scored two runs off an Anthony Bennett pinch-hit RBI single to bring the score within one. Noonan then allowed runners on the corners, got the double play ball from Morales, but the runner beat it out at first to score Bennett and tie the game at 7-7.

Amarillo came up in the ninth and got a Figueroa single, a McClain walk and a Trent Lockwood walk loaded the bases. Ozuna stepped up and sent a 2-2 pitch high to right field. The catch was made, but Figueroa tagged up and scored on the sacrifice fly to give the Dillas their fourth walkoff win at 8-7.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 17-14, while the Broncos fall to 9-22. Monday, Amarillo will host Laredo for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
