
White Wings Snap Colts Win Streak

San Angelo, Texas--- Reymond Cruz went seven strong innings allowing just four Colts runs as the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (14-17) earned their first win of the series over the San Angelo Colts (21-10) with a score of 7-4.
The Whitewings and Colts remained scoreless until the bottom half of the fourth inning. Ronnie Gaines was hit by a pitch delivered by Rio Grande Valley starter Reymond Cruz. Jason Landreth followed with a double that snuck just inside the third base bag as Gaines scored from first, Colts led by a run. Landreth was not at second base for long as Josh Collazo singled to left centerfield pushing San Angelo's lead to two.
However the Colts lead was removed in the top of the fifth. Justin Holloway singled with one out in the frame. Stephen Ward then reached on a Catcher's interference placing runners at first and second. The Whitewings then got on the board from a Casey Allen double, scoring Holloway while Ward and Allen stood at second and third. Shortly after, Henschel attempted a pick off at second base, the ball trickled away and Ward came into score tying the game at two. The Whitewings offense continued to add runs as Agustin Septimo doubled and Joaquin Rodriguez singled plating two more runs. San Angelo trailed 4-2.
The Whitewings added one more in the top of the sixth inning, leading off with a double was Alberto Cruz. Welinson Baez executed the sacrifice bunt and Justin Holloway singled home Cruz making it a 5-2 Rio Grande Valley lead.
In the bottom half, Landreth led the inning off with a single. Stephen Derrick then hit into a fielders choice as Landreth was retired at second base. With a runner at first base, Collazo laced a pitch deep to left centerfield for a stand up double. With runners at second and third and two outs, Butch Ballez grounded a single back up the middle scoring both runner as the Colts trailed 5-4.
The Whitewings would distance themselves in the seventh. In the top of the frame, Rio Grande Valley accumulated four singles and a sacrifice fly adding another two runs pushing their lead to three. The Colts offense could not respond as they were shut out for the final three innings of the contest.
Brian Henschel (4-2) collected his second loss in as many starts. Henschel went six and 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs. Reymond Cruz (4-2) was the winning pitcher, the right hander completed seven innings, scattering seven hits and four earned runs. Julio Santana earned his sixth save of the year.
The Colts managed eight hits on four runs. Butch Ballez collected two hits, a double and a single, while adding two RBI's.Josh Collazo also had multiple hits including a single and a double while driving in two..
San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley will continue their series at Foster Field tomorrow for Haircuts at the ballpark sponsored by Sport Clips.. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
