Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Colo. - The Owlz haven't scored a run in 19 innings, meaning Sunday's series finale ended with a second-straight shutout loss.
It's the first time NoCo (9-14) has been shut out in consecutive games this season.
The club is now 8-16 aganst Grand Junction (18-6). After game one of this series, the Owlz owned an eight-game stretch of double-digit hits. Since then, they've averaged seven hits a game and surpassed the double-digit mark just once.
They only had three in Sunday's series finale, not to mention just four at-bats all game with a runner on base.
Starter Austin Schneider (L, 2-5) stuck it out for five innings, his longest appearance in any game this season. By far his finest start, and he struck out six swingers along the way.
Despite the fact Schneider surrendered four runs, those swingers never posed the biggest problem.
Josh Agnew (W, 7-2) was the problem. The Rockies' righty retired the final 13 batters he saw in his second complete game against the Owlz this season. Sunday marks the second-straight game that a Rockies pitcher went the distance, even though neither of them was a complete nine-inning game.
The league's strikeout leader's logged seven strikeouts on Sunday. He's now faced the Owlz six times and earned a win in four of those games.
As Agnew added to his totals, the Rockies added runs up to the end. Three in the fifth. One in the seventh. Five in the eighth.
The five-run frame makes it a -36 run differential for the Owlz in the eighth inning. That's the worst run differential in any inning this season.
In the ninth, the Rockies leading 10-0, a storm cell spelled the end of Sunday's scuffle. That's when this game got called due to weather.
And that means the Owlz have reached the end of another homestand. They'll get Monday to recover before hitting the road for nine-straight games starting on Tuesday.
