Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
Gabriel Perez fired six innings of two-run ball to pick up his 5th win, and the Owlz hit four home runs to pick up a 11-2 victory over Missoula on Tuesday evening.
The wind was blowing out on Tuesday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field, which played to the advantage of the Owlz offense. Orem came in with a league-leading 29 home runs and extended that number to 33 with four home runs.
Jarrod Parks and Michael Bolaski each hit three-run home runs, while Michael Bolaski belted a two-run shot and Chevy Clarke hit a solo home run. Nine of the 11 runs scored by Orem came via the long ball.
Orem got the scoring started in the second inning on a 3-run home run by Jarrod Parks. Parks, making his first professional start at first base, showed the power of a first basemen, belting a ball the opposite way to give the Owlz a 3-0 lead.
One inning later, the first two Owlz reached, putting two men on for Michael Bolaski. Bolaski got some help from the strong wind in Missoula to belt it out of the park and give Orem a 6-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Perez was pitching a gem. The Dominican right-hander lasted six innings, for the longest outing of his professional career. He picked up his 5th win of the season, which now leads the Pioneer League. Perez has allowed two runs or less in five of his six starts. The Owlz bullpen was also stellar, as Tyler DeLoach, Aaron Sookee and Joey Krehbiel combined to throw three shutout innings.
Orem got two more home runs in the game, including a two-run home run by Jonathan Walsh in the 4th and a solo home run by Clarke in the 5th. The Owlz got a home run in four straight innings for the first time this year.
Orem will now head home to begin a seven-game homestand against the Billings Mustangs and Missoula Osprey. You can come check out your Owlz on Thursday night as it will be the first Kidz Club night of the season. There will also be a Webkinz giveaway and a Papa Murphy's Pizza Pack Night!!
