OREM - The Orem Owlz have been eliminated from 2013 postseason contention with a 12-7 loss to the Idaho Falls Chukars at home Wednesday night. The Chukars opened the scoring with a four-run 2nd and added five in the 5th to cap a 12-0 run en route to a 12-7 victory and the Pioneer League South Division second half championship.

Idaho Falls will face the first-half champion Grand Junction Rockies in the South Division Championship series and the Great Falls Voyagers will face the first-half champion Helena Brewers in the North Division Championship series to round out the playoff field.

The Chukars (40-32, 21-13 Second Half, 24-20 Pioneer South) went up 6-0 heading to the 4th and added six runs on the strength of two homers: a solo homer from Hunter Dozier in the 4th followed by the 12th Pioneer League grand slam of the season from Cody Stubbs one inning later. Patrick Conroy (W, 6-2) recorded his third win against the Owlz and Idaho Falls improved to 5-0 against Orem in games Conroy started this season.

The Owlz (36-35, 16-17 Second Half, 21-23 Pioneer South) got their first run of the night on a leadoff homer by Zac Livingston in the 5th and Cal Towey followed with an RBI single. Livingston added his second RBI in as many innings with a sacrifice fly in the 6th after Jose Rondon scored on a wild pitch. Michael Fish and Eric Aguilera each recorded an RBI single in the 9th and Kody Eaves drove in the last run of the game with an RBI groundout to make the score 12-7.

Quinten Davis made his 2013 Owlz debut and reached base his first three times up with two singles and a walk. Raul Linares and Eric Aguilera also recorded two hits while Livingston led the way with two RBI.

Michael Clevinger (L, 0-1) struck out two in the 1st after Idaho Falls put runners on first and third with one out. Five Chukars reached after consecutive outs to begin the 2nd, including three by way of an extra-base hit to score their first four runs of the game against Clevinger, who threw 2.2 innings. Ben Carlson retired all four batters he faced and Victor Alcantara allowed no runs on two hits with three strikeouts over the final three innings.

Orem hosts Grand Junction for the final two home games of the 2013 season September 5-6 before travelling to Idaho Falls for the final two games of the season September 7-8. All games can be heard live for free at audio.oremowlz.com.
