Owlz Can't Contain Raptors in Return Home

(Orem, UT) - The Ogden Raptors (54-21) scored early and often, beating the Orem Owlz (29-46) 21-5 in the penultimate game of the 2019 season on Friday night at the Home of the Owlz.

Ogden continued it's trend of scoring first. With two outs and a runner at second base in the top of the first inning, Owlz starter Jerryell Rivera walked Sauryn Lao with a runner on first. Jon Littell then opened the scoring by lacing a double into the left field gap, putting the Raptors in front 2-0.

The Raptors continued their onslaught in the second inning. Jeremy Arocho started the inning with a walk and then moved to third on a Ramon Rodriguez single. After Andrew Shaps walked, Jimmy Titus knocked in the Raptors' third run of the game with a ground out. With two outs in the inning, Zac Ching singled in a pair and then Lao smashed a two-run homer, extending the lead to 7-0.

The Owlz entered the evening second in the league in home runs with 85. The Owlz got on the board in the bottom of the second inning thanks to Jose Reyes who launched a solo home run to right, his second of the season, cutting the Ogden lead to 7-1.

Ogden was relentless however, scoring three more runs in the third inning. Arocho started the frame with a triple and then Ramon Rodriguez walked. Andy Pages smacked a three-run homer to extend the Raptors's lead to 10-1.

The Owlz got their bats going in the fourth inning. Drevian Williams-Nelson doubled and then scored on a Reyes single. Caleb Scires and Morgan McCullough each doubled in a run, cutting the Raptors' lead to 11-4. Ogden continued to pile it on, taking those three runs back in the top of the fifth to take a 14-4 lead. D'Shawn Knowles got a run back for the Owlz with a homer to center in the fifth inning, his sixth of the season.

Ogden put an exclamation point on the game by going on to score seven runs in the ninth as they Owlz dropped the opener of a two-game set, 21-5.

Hunter Speer (1-0) earned the win while Jerryell Rivera (1-3) was charged with the loss. The Owlz will wrap up the 2019 season Saturday night as they host the Ogden Raptors at 6:35.
