Owen to Work 500th ECHL Game on Saturday

March 8, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Thursday that linesman Todd Owen will work his 500th ECHL game on Saturday in West Valley City, Utah when the Grizzlies host the Stockton Thunder.

Owen is just the ninth linesman in the 24-year history of the ECHL to reach the 500-game milestone. He is in his ninth season as an ECHL linesman and worked the 2010 All-Star Game in Ontario as well as the Kelly Cup Finals in 2008.

Owen worked his first ECHL game on Oct. 17, 2003 in Columbia, S.C. along with referee Chris Brown and linesman John O'Brien.

"This is a special milestone to reach as Todd is one of only nine linesmen to reach this regular-season game total in the history of the ECHL," said ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Ernst. "It shows the dedication and passion he has for the League. "I personally want to congratulate Todd for reaching this milestone and thank him for all the hard work and dedication he has demonstrated over the years. Todd has been a guy we have leaned on to be that veteran presence while on the ice with our younger staff over the last few years.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to work 500 games in such a great league," Owen said. "I would like to thank the ECHL, Brian McKenna, Joe Ernst and all my fellow officials who I have worked with in the past and present. I would also like to thank Bryan Graham for giving me the opportunity to have all this success in the ECHL."

There are 22 former ECHL officials scheduled to work as part of the NHL officiating team in 2011-12 with referees David Banfield, Francis Charron, Ghislain Hebert, Jean Hebert, Marc Joannette, Mike Leggo, Wes McCauley, Dean Morton, Dan O'Rourke, Brian Pochmara, Kevin Pollock, Kyle Rehman, Chris Rooney, Justin St. Pierre, Graham Skilliter and Ian Walsh, and linesmen Steve Barton, Brian Mach, Matt MacPherson, Tim Nowak, Bryan Pancich and Jay Sharrers.
