Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Team Canada announced Tuesday that Steel defenseman Owen Power will represent Canada at the 2018 World U-17 Hockey Challenge in November.

"It's a real honor to be picked to the team and it's a dream come true," said Power.

Power, a Mississauga, Ontario native, will represent his home country for the first time at the tournament. The 15-year-old defenseman will join a specific Team Canada roster at a later date with pre-tournament games hosted on Thursday, Nov. 1 while the tournament begins Saturday, Nov. 3.

The University of Michigan commit scored a goal in his USHL debut on September 27, becoming just the fifth defenseman in Steel team history to do so. Power was the first-round selection (#7 overall) of the Chicago Steel in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft after recording 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) in 32 games last season with the Mississauga Reps of the Greater Toronto Minor Midget Hockey League.

"The entire Steel family is proud of Owen for earning the privilege of representing his home country in international competition," said Steel General Manager Ryan Hardy. "The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is the best tournament in the world for Owen's age group and his selection speaks to his talent, which is outmatched only by his work ethic and character."

Power is one of three current USHL players selected to represent Team Canada as the majority of players selected are from the Ontario and Western Hockey Leagues. Steel defenseman Luke Reid represented Canada at the 2017 tournament.

The Steel return to Fox Valley Ice Arena Friday night at 7:05 p.m. for Paint the Rink Pink presented by V Fusion Group Fitness. The breast cancer awareness game will feature special pink jerseys that will be bid on through a silent auction during the game with proceeds going to American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The team then travels to Green Bay for a Saturday night showdown with the Gamblers at 7:05 at Resch Center.

Tickets for all Steel home games are on sale now, starting at just $10 with stadium seating on the glass available for just $20. Discounts are available for groups and season ticket plans start at just 5 games for $45. Parking is always free.
