Over 26,000 Students Enroll in Third Season of "Reading Wranglers"
October 2, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers and The Public Education Foundation's Clark County READS program announced Wednesday the return of the third annual "Reading Wranglers" program, a partnership designed to encourage good reading habits in elementary schools across the county.
The "Reading Wranglers" program rewards students with various community-donated prizes for meeting daily reading requirements over the course of six weeks. Kindergarten through second grade-level students are required to independently read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day, and third - fifth grade students must read at least 20 minutes every day. Launching in 63 elementary schools on Monday, Oct. 7, almost 26,600 students across Clark County have signed up this year, and over 60,000 students have participated since 2011.
At the end of the six-week program, the efforts of all the teachers and students will be celebrated at the Wranglers game on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 7:05 p.m. During an on-ice ceremony, 10 students and one teacher who complete the "Reading Wranglers" program will be randomly selected to receive their own Amazon Kindle, courtesy of the Wranglers.
Students will receive prizes thanks to donations from Rita's Italian Ice, The Putt Park, SkyZone Indoor Trampoline Park, YMCA of Southern Nevada, Del Taco and the Wranglers. United Way's Young Philanthropists Society has signed on as a youth involvement partner to help make the program a success as well.
The Wranglers open their eleventh season of hockey in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:05 p.m. against the Utah Grizzlies. For the entire Wranglers schedule, please click here for a one-page PDF .
