Chico Outlaws News Release
ST. GEORGE, UT - Eric Pringle knocked in a pair of runs and scored three times to lead a 13-hit attack and Jake McKinley tossed six solid innings as the Chico Outlaws defeated the St. George Roadrunners 8-4 Friday night at Bruce Hurst Field in St. George, Utah...the Outlaws winning their third in a row while handing the Roadrunners their fifth straight loss.
McKinley and St. George starter Shannon Sprouse hooked up for an entertaining pitcher's duel through the early going, with Chico pulling away late in the contest. The Outlaws opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning when Jason Van Meetren walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and came home on Brock Ungricht's bouncer to short. The Roadrunners knotted things up with a run in the bottom of the second - Steven Wright scoring from third on a McKinley wild pitch. It stayed tied at one until the top of the 5th inning when Chico went ahead to stay - Pringle walked, advanced to third on a Steve Boggs hit-and-run single, and scored on Jesse Kovacs' grounder to third. The Outlaws went up 3-1 with a run in the 7th, with Pringle using a walk, stolen base, throwing error and wild pitch to score and give Chico a two-run advantage.
The Outlaws effectively put the game away in the 8th, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring four times - Pringle singled home Ungricht...Kovacs delivered a two-run single...and Boggs scored when Scott Dragicevich reached on an error, giving Chico a 7-1 lead. The Outlaws added an insurance run in the 9th, and again it was Pringle providing the key blow - this time an RBI double to plate Jason Matteucci. St. George struck for three runs in the bottom of the 9th when, with two aboard, Johnny Coit drove a Jake McLintock pitch over the right field wall...but it was too little and too late as McLintock got Gary Harris to bounce out to Pringle at second to give the Outlaws the victory.
McKinley (2-1) struck out a career-high six batters to earn the win...McLintock chalking up his first save of the season...Sprouse (1-1) suffered the loss. Pringle, Ungricht, Boggs, Kovacs and Dragicevich each had two hits to pace the Outlaws, while Daniel Nava singled in the 4th inning to extend his team-high hitting streak to eight games. The Roadrunners had nine hits on the night, with Harris, Wright and Marcos Villezcas collecting two safeties apiece. With Friday's win, Chico improves to 9-6 on the year and pulls to within three games of first place Yuma in the Golden Baseball League standings...St. George falls to 3-12 on the year. The Outlaws go for the series sweep Saturday, sending Nick Singleton (0-1) to the mound...the Roadrunners will counter with righty Mike Woodyard (0-2). Game time is 6:05pm...Rory Miller brings you all the action beginning at 5:35pm on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio.
