Outlaws take ninth straight

June 30, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release

The Outlaws extended their club record win streak to nine games with a 6-5 win over the Orange County Flyers. The Outlaws benefited from 13 walks by Flyers' pitchers and timely hitting by third baseman Scott Dragicevich in both team's first extra-inning game of the year.

Dragicevich drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning with a single up the middle, scoring Jesse Kovacs from second base at a close play at the plate. Flyers' center fielder Aaron Davis' throw beat Kovacs to the plate, but catcher Buddy Morales couldn't handle the throw as Kovacs barreled into him at the plate.

Todd Gelatka pitched the top of the 10th first his first win of the year and veteran Dave Coggin picked up the loss for Orange County. Gelatka got out of a one-out jam by intentionally walking Rich Pohle to get to reigning GBL Most Valuable Player and home run champion Peanut Williams and getting Williams to ground into a double play.

The match-up between starters Reed Dickert of Orange County and Nick Singleton of Chico featured just nine strikeouts, seven by Dickert. Neither pitcher factored in the decision.

Once again, the top of the Outlaws order did what it was supposed to as Steve Boggs, Kovacs and Dragicevich combined to go 6-for-13 and carried the offense. With his two hits, Boggs extended his hitting streak to nine games and Kovacs improved to 8-for-16 during this home stand.

The crowd of 2,859 had to wait 3 hours and 37 minutes to see the post-game firework show sponsored by Enloe Medical Center. Outlaws players wore the teal Aloha Friday jerseys for the first time this year.

Tomorrow the Outlaws send Tyler Pearson (2-1, 0.56 ERA) to the mound against lefty Jamie Douglas (2-1, 6.38 ERA) at 7:05.
