Chico Outlaws News Release

The Chico Outlaws got back into the win column on Sunday night, opening a four-game set at Goodwin Field with a 9-3 win over the Orange County Flyers.

Mark McLemore (4-3) got the ball for Chico, responding with six and a third innings of work, piling up a season-high nine strikeouts. McLemore allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks, but got the win, his fourth of the year.

Orange County's Matt Durkin (1-3) never got into a rythm as the Outlaws scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Durkin hit Outlaws lead off hitter Mitch Einertson to start the game, then walked Bobby Hill to put runners on first and second. After a fielding error by Flyers' first baseman Derrek Perren put JJ Sherrill on first to load the bases, Mikael Jova and Mike Rose hit back-to-back to sac flies, plating the game's first two runs. Third baseman Santo DeLeon then stroked an RBI single to score Sherrill, making it 3-0 Chico.

Chico struck again in the top of the fourth, pushing two runs home off Durkin on a two-RBI single by Jova, putting the Outlaws up by five runs.

The Flyers Tyler Keeble knocked in a run with a single in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-1.

Four more runs came home for the Outlaws in the visitor's half of the fifth to make the score 9-1. First baseman John Urick, who had three hits in the game, hit a double to lead off the frame. Rookie Pascual Del Real then reached base on a throwing error by Flyers' third baseman Jimmy Rohan. One batter later, Einertson pasted a two-RBI double off the bottom of the centerfield wall to cash in both Urick and Del Real. Two batters later, Jova knocked in his fourth and fifth RBIs of the night, scoring Einertson and Hill, who walked.

Jim Goethals two RBI single in the sixth closed the scoring for Orange County (1-1 second half; 23-25 overall).

The Outlaws bullpen pitched two and two-thirds inning of shutout baseball to finish the game. David Dinelli pitched two-thirds of an inning and Justin Segal two innings, with Segal racking up two strikeouts.

Chico improved to 2-2 in the second half and 35-14 overall.

Right hander Kris Honel goes for his seventh win of the year on Monday night at 7:05 pm at the Station opposite rightie Jesse Smith of the Flyers..
