Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - When your newborn baby's initials are ERA, that's usually a pretty good indication you take pitching quite seriously. And new Edmonton Capitals hurler Daryl Arreola certainly proved that in his debut Monday night.

Arreola, who named his recently-born son Easton Ryder Arreola, initials E.R.A., was nearly flawless for the Caps on Monday in his first start since being acquired from the Yuma Scorpions last week. The 27-year-old tossed a complete game and gave up just five hits and two runs while striking out five as the Caps blew out the Cimarrones 13-2.

"This team's playing incredible right now, and I'm really happy to be a part of it," Arreola said. "I heard nothing but great things about Edmonton before I got here, and it's definitely been true. It's a really exciting atmosphere here. I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp on the hitters in this league and I'm going to keep attacking them."

The Caps were quite formidable at the plate on Monday as well, with short stop Enrique Cruz leading the way with five hits, including a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Centre fielder Ryan Stevenson also drove in three runs, while first baseman Cliff Brumbaugh and third baseman Alex Prieto knocked in a pair each as well.

The team remains red-hot, having won 16 of their last 17 games, and currently sits in first place in the Golden Baseball League's North Division in the second half at 3-0. They take on the Cimarrones again on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m. before heading out on the road.

Tuesday's special morning start time is Kids Take Over Day, as local youngsters will be fulfilling various ballpark duties, like helping coach and announcing the game. And Wednesday's 7 p.m. start is another Wiener Wednesday, as Capital Dogs will be on sale for just $2.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
