Tucson Edges Maui 4-3 on Sunday

Maui, HI - The Tucson Toros got their first win in Maui Sunday night by defeating the Na Koa Ikaika 4-3. The win was the second for the Toros in the second half of the GBL season.

SS Ryan Priddy drove in 1B Cristobal Santana on a fielder's choice in the top of the 8th to break a 3-3 tie. Santana had led off the inning with his second double of the game, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored to raise his average to a team leading .359.

Cristobal has been swinging a hot bat since returning to the lineup after an injury, hitting .400 (6-for-15) with a 5-game hitting streak. He his pair of 2-baggers gave him 10 on the season to move into a tie for the team lead along with OF Lino Garcia.

Tucson Righthanded starter James Garcia earned the win and improved to 3-4 with a quality start against Maui, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings while striking out 6.

Lefty returnee Reid Price pitched a perfect bottom of the 8th to preserve the lead and closer Emiliano Fruto locked down his 7th save of the season by fanning 1 in the 9th. Fruto's scoreless frame lowered his ERA to 1.99.

The Tucson Toros and Na Koa Ikaika will take a day off on Monday before resuming their series Tuesday with game five of the six game series set to begin at 9:35 p.m. Tucson time.
