Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA) The Chico Outlaws lost for the first time in the 2010 campaign by a 6-4 score on Friday night at Nettleton Stadium. Jose Rios (1-0) avoided the big inning and got the win for the Cimarrones (1-5), who pick up their first win of the year.
Chico broke the ice early and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after leadoff hitter Blake Gailen reached first on an error by Tijuana second baseman Juan Melo. With one out, Mikael Jova singled in Gailen and then Mike Rose had an RBI single to drive in JJ Sherrill to give the Outlaws the lead heading into the second innings.
Tijuana got a solo homerun from Juan Melo in the second inning, then used a four run third inning to get in control of the game.
Erold Andrus singled to lead off the third for the Cimarrones. After a Jackson Melian single and fielders choice by Melo, Kit Pellow reached base on a throwing error by third baseman Rich Janeway. Carlos Lopez then drove in Melo with an RBI groundout. The next batter, left fielder Juan Velasquez, hit a two run homerun, driving in Pellow to make it 5-2 Tijuana.
The Outlaws got a two run homerun from Blake Gailen with two outs in the fourth after Rich Janeway led off the inning with a single, making the score 5-4.
Tijuana plated one more run in the fifth after Jesse Oster hit the leadoff hitter in the inning Jackson Melian. Pellow then drove in Melian on a double play ground out for the final run of the game, making it 6-4.
David Dinelli came on in the eighth inning for Chico and had two strikeouts. However, after throwing two balls to the leadoff hitter for Tijuana in the ninth inning, Dinelli had to leave the game with an injury. Matt Perisho came in and finished the inning without allowing a run.
Pedro Rodgriguez came in and pitched two scoreless innings, then Julio Santana picked up his first save of the year pitching the ninth inning for the Cimarrones. The save did not come without drama however, as the Outlaws put two runners on in the frame before Santana got JJ Sherrill to strike out to the end the game.
The loss snaps a five game winning streak for the Outlaws as Chico falls to 5-1 on the year, while Tijuana is now 1-5.
The Outlaws and Cimarrones play again on Saturday night at the "Nett". Its Girl Power Night as Eri Yoshida makes her US professional debut and makes history as the first woman to pitch professionally in two countries. Game time is set for 7:05 pm.
