Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA. May 31st, 2010) Tijuana got a strong performance from starting pitcher Ricardo Paulino and got by the Chico Outlaws 8-5 on a Monday afternoon matinee affair at Nettleton Stadium. The game concluded the four game series between the Outlaws and Cimarrones, with both teams winning two of the four games.
The Cimarrones jumped out quick in the first inning, with both Ivan Ochoa and Erold Andrus getting base hits off Outlaws starter Garret Holleran (1-1). Both runners scored, Ochoa on an RBI groundout by Jackson Melian and Andrus on an RBI single from former Kansas City Royal Kit Pellow, making it 2-0.
Bobby Hill hit a solo homerun of Paulino (1-0) in the bottom of the first inning for the Outlaws first tally of the game.
Tijuana then scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Andrus, scoring Yasmil Bucce, who had singled earlier in the inning. The third inning saw the Cimarrones get a solo homerun from Juan Melo and an RBI single from Yasmil Bucce, scoring Juan Velasquez.
Chico got lone runs in the third and fourth innings. Blake Gailen walked to lead off the third and one batter later, scored on an RBI groundout by Mitch Einertson. Mike Rose hit a solo homerun for the Outlaws in the fourth to make it 5-3, tying him for the league lead in homeruns with four with Ben Johnson of Orange County.
The Cimarrones got to Holleran again in the sixth inning with one out as Ochoa walked and was followed up with an Andrus two run homerun. Jesse Oster came out of the Chico bullpen to relieve Holleran and allowed a single to Jackson Melian, who eventually scored on Kit Pellow's RBI single to make the score 8-3.
Showing resiliency, the Outlaws got two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Alex Prieto, who came into the game in a double-switch in the eighth inning, was hit by a pitch from Cimarrones reliever Elio Serrano. Gailen then singled, putting two on with nobody out. Hill grounded out to first, scoring Prieto. Einertson then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Gailen to score. This made it 8-5 Tijuana.
Chico loaded the bases in the ninth inning off Julio Santana, but Alex Prieto grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to send the home crowd home disappointed on the Memorial Day holiday. The loss dropped the Outlaws to 7-2 on the year, while Tijuana improved to 2-7.
The Outlaws start a three game series with St George starting tomorrow night at 6:35 pm at Nettleton Stadium. Demetrius Banks will start for the Outlaws.
