
Outlaws Herd Cimarrones; Take Game 8-5

(Chico, CA. May 29th, 2010) Chico, CA. May 30th, 2010) The Outlaws used a four run first inning for the second day in a row to jump out quickly and corral Tijuana by a count of 8-5.
Kris Honel (2-0) picked up his second win of the young season and the Outlaws have now won two games in a row after having their season opening five game win streak snapped last Friday night.
Yoffri Martinez (0-1) lasted just two innings in his start for the Cimarrones, giving up four runs in the first inning, including a two RBI single to Mikael Jova after Martinez loaded the bases to start the game with a single by Mitch Einertson, a walk to Bobby Hill and by hitting JJ Sherrill with a pitch. Alex Prieto then grounded into a double play, scoring Sherrill, then Robby Alcombrack had an RBI single in the frame, scoring Jova.
The Outlaws scored two more runs in the third after Ismael Castro, making his Outlaws debut at third base, doubled and then was brought home by an Alex Prieto single. Mitch Einertson singled in Prieto with one out in the inning before the side was retired.
Tijuana broke through in the fourth inning with after Kit Pellow hit a double and was driven home with a single by Juan Velasquez, the leading hitter for the Cimarrones.
Things got real interesting in the top of the fifth, as Tijuana scored four runs off starter Kris Honel. Erold Andrus walked to lead off the inning and after the next two batters were retired, Juan Melo walked to put two runners on. A Kit Pellow singled loaded the bases, setting the stage for a Juan Velasquez double that plated Andrus and Melo, making the score 6-3 Outlaws. Jose Lopez then singled home both Pellow and Velasquez, making it a one-run game at 6-5.
The Outlaws got one run in the sixth inning on a Rich Janeway RBI single driving in Bobby Hill, who walked to lead off the inning.
In the seventh, Robby Alcombrack scored on a passed ball after he hit a double to cap the scoring for Chico and the game.
Rusty Jones pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Chico, surrendering two hits and recording a strikeout. Justin Segal pitched the final two innings, mowing down three Cimarrones with strikeouts and earning his first save of the year.
Chico is now 7-1 on the year and in first place in the North Division. Tijuana drops to 1-7, last place in the Southern Division of the GBL.
The two teams meet tomorrow to wrap up the four game series at Nettleton Stadium on Memorial Day to make up the postponement from May 26th. Game time is set for noon and all US Military veteran and their families will be admitted free of charge to the game.
Garret Holleran goes to the bump tomorrow for the Outlaws, while Reynier Gonzalez gets the call for the Cimarrones.
