Chico Outlaws News Release

In the finale of a closely contested series, for the second night in a row the winning run scores on a wild pitch, as the Outlaws Rich Janeway scores from second-base in the 7th inning to give the Outlaws a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish. The offense would further put the game on ice, scoring three more times in the 8th inning, and Jesse Oster shut the door in a non-save situation for the team's 23 win of the season.

The night got off to a bad start for Outlaws southpaw Jo Matumoto, as Yuma surged to a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat, rapping out five hits. The Outlaws would then chip away, eventually tying the ballgame at 3 after six innings.

That's when the back and forth ballgame would become decided in the 7th. Yuma took a short-lived late inning 4-3 lead when Reyanldo Rodriguez singled in Cesar Del Rio. But, in the bottom half of the inning, following rally-generating 7th inning stretch, the Outlaws score the tying and go-ahead runs on a Cristian Mendoza wild pitch.

Ben Shockey gets the victory, recording just one out to close the 7th inning. Cristian Mendonza gets the loss. Truan Mehl (the 2009 GBL All-Star Game MVP...pictured) had a big offensive night, finishing 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a late-inning double. Jason Crosland wound up with a pair of hits in his last two at-bats, doubling in 2 RBI in the 8th as he finished 2-for-4.

With the victory, the Outlaws evened the season series with Yuma at three. Both teams have won series at home. For the Outlaws, their homestand continues with two more three game series', as they welcome St. George to town for their one and only trip of the season beginning Tuesday night. Evan White will get the start, as the Outlaws look to climb back to and beyond the .500 mark.

Tickets for the remaining six games of the homestand can be purchased at our downtown office located at 308 Salem Street, over the phone at 345-3210, at the Stadium Box office the night of the game, or you can click here to purchase them online.
