Orange County Flyers News Release

(Fullerton, Ca) - The Golden Baseball League Champion Orange County Flyers have announced that they will be playing a league game in Mission Viejo on Tuesday August 4th at Saddleback College against the Long Beach Armada.

The OC Flyers are the reigning champions of the Professional Independent Golden Baseball League and are currently in first place in the Southern Division. The reason for moving the game to Saddleback College is to gauge the amount of interest by the League in having professional baseball return to South County.

"When my group acquired The Flyers we were granted rights to the entire County of Orange", said Flyers President and General Manager Alan Mintz. "Our research showed that most people who attend such events won't go morethan ten miles or so from home too often. Hence, we had always planned to put a second team in South County."

The game will give people in the area the opportunity to see some of the best Independent Professional players competing in the GBL. The Flyers are managed by Former Major League Star Phil Nevin and his players include former MLB All Star Robert Fick, major league infielder Damian Jackson and local south county star Travis Becktel.

The Long Beach Armada are managed by former Cardinal and Padre star Garry Templeton and feature two major league international pitchers - Jose Lima and Hideki Irabu.

"This game will give us a feel for the level of interest in Professional Baseball and whether it is indeed viable to consider adding a second team which has already been approved by The Golden Baseball League," stated Mintz. "Besides Saddleback we have been in discussions with other areas including The Great Park".
