Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - Nick Singleton delivered his second straight solid pitching performance, scattering three hits over seven-and-two-thirds innings, and Chico scored early and often to blank the Long Beach Armada 7-0 in front of nearly 1,400 fans Tuesday night at Nettleton Stadium...the Outlaws handing Long Beach its fourth straight defeat.

Singleton, who tossed five-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless ball in the Outlaws season opener June 2nd against Fullerton, was even more impressive against Long Beach, allowing just three baserunners through the first five innings and at one point retired 10 straight Armada batters. Chico provided plenty of offense, getting on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the 1st, then going up 4-0 in the 2nd on Jesse Kovac's two-run double and an RBI groundout off the bat of Alex Froloff.

While Singleton continued to mow through the Long Beach line-up, the Outlaws made it 6-0 with a pair of runs in the 4th inning - with one out, Chico catcher Jim Wallace smacked a solo homer to left off Armada starter Nathan Pudewell...Kovacs followed with a single, advanced to second on a throwing error, went to third on an infield hit by Froloff and scored on Steve Booker's sharp single to center. The Outlaws completed the evening's scoring with a run in the 7th to make it 7-0 - Long Beach reliever Chad Clark walked the bases loaded...Bobby Gandolfo scoring on a Lino Garcia groundout. Singleton worked into the 8th, then gave way to Outlaws reliever Robert Anaya, who got the final out of the inning and retired the Armada in order in the 9th to wrap up Chico's second win over Long Beach in as many nights.

Singleton (2-0) struck out three in earning the victory...he has now tossed 13-and-a-third scoreless innings to start the season (Grant Gregg holds the current Outlaws team record, stringing together 17-and-two-thirds scoreless innings in 2005). Booker, Gandolfo and Kovacs each had two hits for Chico, who with Tuesday's win improved to 4-2 on the season...Long Beach slipped to 1-4 on the year. The Outlaws will try for a series sweep Wednesday when they send right-hander Brian Kroll (0-1) to the mound; the Armada will counter with former major leaguer Bud Smith (0-0). Game time is 7:05pm.
