Flyers blasted 16-1

June 7, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

A night after losing in dramatic fashion in 12 innings to the Silver Sox, the Flyers lost a laugher by the score of 16-1 in Reno. The Flyers had a 1-0 lead after three innings, but starter Wes Faust and three relievers proceeded to give up 16 unanswered runs and 18 hits to the Silver Sox.

Reno batted around in the 4th and 5th innings, while putting up 11 runs on the scoreboard. Every Silver Sox starter scored at least once in the two innings besides Victor Hall.

Marcus Jensen continued to be a thorn in the Flyers side. He was a triple shy of the cycle, a night after hitting the game winning homerun.

Rookie second basemen Carlos Madrid reached base five times for the Silver Sox, who padded their lead with a four run 9th.

Reno also got a dominating start from Chris Marini, who struck out seven in seven innings of work. Marini got his first win of the season by only giving up one run on four hits.

The only bright spot for the Flyers was Bret Levier, who scored on a Rich Pohle single to put Fullerton in front 1-0.

Flyers reliever Mike McTamney continued to struggle by giving up five runs in just one inning.

The Flyers fell to 3-4, while the Silver Sox moved to 4-2.

Fullerton heads to the desert to square off with the Yuma Scorpions for a three-game weekend set.
