
Otters win season opener

SUDBURY, Ont. - Chris Greene scored twice and added an assist to lead the Erie Otters to a 5-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,965 at the Sudbury Arena. Sean O'Connor added a pair of goals for the Otters while Andrew Hotham had the other. Mike Blunden registered three assists in the game while Vince Scott collected a pair of helpers. Brett Parnham scored the lone Sudbury goal. The Otters and Wolves were tied at one after one. The Otters carried a 3-1 lead into the third. Jhase Sniderman started for the Otters and turned aside 24 shots for the victory as Erie out shot the Wolves 28-25. The three stars of the game were 1. O'Connor; 2. Sudbury forward Alex Eaton and 3. Greene.
The Otters complete their season-opening road trip through Northern Ontario Sunday night at 7 p.m. when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie to face the Greyhounds. Hamot Hockey Night begins immediately following Pittsburgh Steelers Football on SportsRadio 1330 the FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company).
The Otters 10th Anniversary Home Opener takes place Thursday, September 29th when the Plymouth Whalers present the opposition. The Otters and the Whalers faced each other nine years ago to the day to usher in the home portion of the Otters inaugural campaign in 1996-97. Diamond Anniversary Celebrations are set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
