McGrath notches five points in opening night win

Kitchener, ON: The Rangers started off the 2005-06 season in style with a dominating 9-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires before a crowd of 5,811 at The Aud.

Evan McGrath scored the opening goal of the season while on the power play at 2:02. Justin Azevedo gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead at 8:24. Michael Pelech picked up an assist on the goal, his first career OHL point. Minutes later Matt Pepe scored his first career OHL goal at 11:13 to put the Rangers up 3-0 after twenty minutes.

In the second period the Spitfires got on the board when Brian Soso beat Dan Turple with a power play goal at 15:13. Patrick Davis gave the Rangers their three goal cushion back with a goal at 18:26.

The Rangers buried the Spitfires in the third period with five goals. Davis (2), Azevedo (2), Duco, McGrath (2) and Bastien all found the scoresheet. Bastien's goal was his first career OHL point.

Dan Turple picked up the win turning aside 23 shots. Turple also collected a pair of assists in the game.

The Rangers next game is Sunday, September 25th vs the Guelph Storm. Game time is 3:00 p.m.

Game Notes: Matt Pepe entered the game scoreless in his first 71 OHL games...Pelech collected 2 points in his OHL debut...Azevedo, Davis and McGrath each scored a pair of goals...McGrath finished the evening with five points...Davis scored twice and had an assist...5,811 fans attended the game.
