Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters wrap up 2006-2007 this weekend with three games in three days beginning Thursday night in Sarnia against the Sting. The regular season comes to a close with a home-and-home set against the London Knights, Friday at the John Labatt Center in London followed by a St. Patrick's Day finale at the Tullio Arena on Saturday.

The games Thursday (7:35 p.m.) and Friday (7:30 p.m.) in Sarnia and London respectively can be heard live on True Oldies 1330 and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes before the opening face-off.

Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena Cold Stone Creamery, WSEE and Mercyhurst present Fan Appreciation Night with more than $20,000 in cash and prizes available to be won. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.

The Otters enter weekend action with a record of 15-47-1-2 and coming off a pair of losses on home ice last weekend. A number of individual goals are within reach for members of the Otters in the last weekend of the season. Leading scorer Zack Torquato is one goal shy of 30 on the season and three points away from 70. Justin Hodgman needs one goal for 20 and one point for 50. Ronny Rogers is two goals short of a 20-goal season, which would make him the first Otters rookie to score 20 or more goals in a season since Joe Guenther (2000-02) established the franchise record for goals in a season by a rookie with 34 in 2000-01. Rogers' 40 points on the season is the most by an Otters rookie since Guenther collected a rookie-record 66 in 2000-01.

Sarnia hits the weekend with a 32-24-4-5 mark. The Sting currently hold the seventh seed in the Western Conference but, depending on the results of their three remaining games, could finish anywhere from sixth to eighth. Rookie Steven Stamkos leads a balanced Sting attack with 39 goals and 49 assists for 88 points in 60 games. In all, Sarnia features six players with 20 or more goals this season.

The Knights (48-14-1-3) look at their final two regular season games, both against the Otters, hoping to secure their fourth straight OHL Regular Season title. With a sweep of the two-game set London will hit the 50-win plateau for the third time in the last four seasons. The Knights, currently tied with the Plymouth Whalers for first in the Western Conference, feature the most explosive offense in the League with three of the top-five scorers. Patrick Kane leads the OHL in scoring with 57 goals and 77 assists for 134 points in 56 games. Sergei Kostitsyn is fourth in League scoring with 39 goals and 83 assists for 122 points in 57 games followed by Sam Gagne with 35 goals and 83 assists for 118 in 53 games.
