
Otters take out Storm

Erie Otters News Release
Nick Palmieri scored the deciding goal in a shootout to lift the Erie Otters to a 6-5 win over the Guelph Storm in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,172 at the Tullio Arena.
Justin Hodgman scored twice for the Otters while Shayne Taylor, Kyle Ramsay (with the first of his career) and Josh Vatri added singles. Palmieri collected two helpers. Stanislav Polodna also scored in the shootout for Erie.
The Otters snapped a five-game losing streak and a four-game home losing streak with the win. Erie is now 4-13-0-2 on the season. Guelph dropped their fifth straight and are now 9-7-1-3.
Tyler Melancon scored twice for the Storm. Drew Doughty (who also scored in the shootout), Anthony Nigro and Luke Pither, with the equalizer with only 20 seconds left in regulation, chipped in singles.
The two teams were tied at two after one. Erie carried a 5-3 lead into the third. Nigro and Pither scored in the final six-and-a-half minutes of regulation to force overtime.
The Storm out shot the Otters 27-25 in the game as Ryan Ludzik posted the victory. Ludzik also stopped two of the three Guelph attempts in the shootout.
The three stars of the game were 1. Hodgman; 2. Vatri and 3. Melancon.
The Otters return to action with a pair of weekend home games Saturday and Sunday at the Tullio Arena. Saturday at 7:30 p.m. it's the Otters and the Sudbury Wolves (10-7-1-1) presented by the EMTA. Sunday in a special 6 p.m. start time the Otters welcome the Windsor Spitfires (5-10-1-1). Tickets for the games are available at the Civic Center Box Office and all Erie-area TicketMaster locations.
