Peterborough, Ont. (Nov. 8, 2006) - The Peterborough Petes scored two quick goals during the 3rd period of tonight's game versus the St. Michael's Majors and went on to win 3-1. Peterborough's big guns did the most damage on this night as Steve Downie and Daniel Ryder combined for 5 points. The loss pushes the Majors record to 10-10-0-0 on the year.
Downie's unassisted effort at 5:01 of the 1st period gave the Petes a 1-0 lead. Jason Cassidy tied up the affair for the Majors at 5:41 of the 3rd period off of a Matt Caria feed. However, Ryder and Justin Soryal knocked home power-play and even-strength goals at 7:31 and 8:55, respectively to give the home squad a 3-1 lead that they would never relinquish. The final Petes assists were grabbed by Downie (2), Ryder and Kyle Raftis.
Chris Carrozzi finished the night with 32 saves for the Majors while Trevor Cann had 30 stops for the Petes. The Majors were 0 for 5 on the power-play while the Petes were 1 for 8. The game's three stars were Downie (1st), Ryder (2nd) and Carrozzi (3rd).
The Majors return home to host Tyler Haskins and the Saginaw Spirit tomorrow evening at St. Mike's Arena at 7:30 p.m. Former team captain Adam Deleeuw will be performing the ceremonial puck drop as the club unveils a banner to celebrate the 1998-99 squad.
