Otters Sign Evansville Native, Former USI Pitcher Taylor Dennis

April 23, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters signed former University of Southern Indiana pitcher Taylor Dennis on Tuesday night.

Dennis played a vital role in USI winning the 2010 Division II National Championship. He went 4-0 that postseason, piloting the Screaming Eagles to the title. He is glad to be back pitching in Evansville again.

"I'm excited to start playing ball again, especially in my own backyard," said Taylor Dennis. "This season I hope to be a reliable arm and a go-to guy late in games. I will be focused on helping the team any way I can while also improvising my own abilities. I'm very grateful for this opportunity."

Dennis was a 34th round pick of the Texas Rangers in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft. He was 2-1 that season with the Arizona League Rangers before moving up to Spokane (A-) and Hickory (A) in 2012. Dennis held a 1.99 earned run average that season, earning a promotion to Myrtle Beach (A+) last season. He has made just two starts over his 58 professional appearances and is expected to bolster the Otters' already impressive bullpen core.

"We are very happy to have signed Taylor," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "He should prove to be a power arm for us in later innings."

In an unrelated move, the Otters placed 1B James Mallard on the suspended list.
