Otters Score 7 in First Home Win of the Season

Erie, Pennsylvania. - The Otters returned to home ice Saturday, for the first time since the home opener on September 30. The Otters came into tonight's contest looking to build off of an overtime victory the last time out Thursday in Niagara. They would face a Windsor Spitfires team also with one win on the year, looking to kick-start their season. The first of four match-ups between the two teams would signal the return to play against a Western Conference opponent for only the third time this season. Erie came in searching for its first win against an opponent from the West.

The first period would get underway with chances at both ends. About half-way through the frame, Otters forward Kaleb Smith would draw a penalty on a break-away, a penalty-shot would be awarded. He would bury it for his first of the season making the score 1-0. Just under a minute later, Bruce McDonald would catch a pass from Martin Misiak in the high-slot and he would not miss. A top-shelf wrister made the score 2-0 home team. Windsor would respond and create a few chances of their own. Otters netminder Ben Gaudreau in his first home start would make a world-class save, robbing Windsor's Oliver Peer. The Otters would respond instantly, just seconds later Misiak would score his second of the year to give Erie a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The Otters would lead in shots 15-12.

In period number two it would be the Otters once again coming out on the front foot. Chance after chance would come and just over three minutes into the frame it would be Bruce McDonald scoring his second of the night, making it 4-0 Erie. The home team would continue to pour it on as Alex Messier scored on a break-away, making it 5-0. On a power play, just over halfway through the period, Otters captain Spencer Sova would hammer a one-timer into the back of the net making it 6-0. The Otters would still look for more, as on a 2-on-0 rush, Carey Terrance found the twine to put the Otters up 7-0. Shots

In period three with the Otters already up by seven, they were looking to keep the lead in tact and pick up the victory. The Spitfires would control the play and 10 minutes into the period Aidan Castle would score his second of the year to make it 7-1. The Otters would hold on throughout the frame and secure the 7-1 win, their second in a row. Erie would be out-shot for the first time this season, with the final shot total being 38-32 Windsor.

The Otters will return to the ice tomorrow afternoon Sunday in Mississauga. They will return to home ice one week from tonight for Tiki Luau Night when they take on the Sarnia Sting.
