Erie Otters News Release
Sarnia, Ontario - The Otters struck first and never gave up the lead in a 7-1 win over Sarnia Friday night. Taylor Raddysh and Patrick Murphy both scored two goals and Dylan Strome racked up four points in the victory.
Erie jumped out to another early lead with Raddysh finding the back of the net for his seventh of the season from Mason Marchment and Travis Dermott. Marchment nearly made it 2-0 with a big chance in front of the net, but it rang off the post.
Immediately after, the Otters had the first power play of the night with Alex Black called for hooking after pulling down Marchment. Strome took advantage of the man advantage, putting the Otters up by two. Kyle Maksimovich and Darren Raddysh picked up the assists, Raddysh extending his point streak to 14 games.
The Otters hopped out to a 4-0 lead to start the second. Murphy netted his third of the season from Strome on a set of redirections that ended up with the puck in the net. Back on the power play, Maksimovich scored his second of the year, Strome and Raddysh upping their point totals for the night.
Anthony DeAngelo gave the Sting their lone goal of the game just over halfway through the period. But with a questionable hit on Travis Wood with under a minute to go, a scrum broke out behind the Sarnia net. Kurtis MacDermid was called for roughing, but Sarnia's DeAngelo was assessed a 10-minute misconduct, and Pavel Zacha left the game with two for roughing, a five-minute major for charging, and a game misconduct.
With a five-minute power play to work with kicking off the third period, Alex DeBrincat gave the Otters a 5-1 lead, and Strome and Raddysh continued their streak of assists for the night. The Otters took two more penalties - one to Nick Betz, and one to Cory Genovese - but killed them both. Murphy scored his second of the game with just under two minutes to play, and, closing out the night, Taylor Raddysh beat Justin Fazio to give the Otters their 7-1 final.
Daniel Dekoning's record stays perfect in the win, bringing him to 7-0-0-0 in his OHL career. Strome finished the night with four points, Darren Raddysh and Maksimovich racked up three each, and Murphy, Marchment, and Taylor Raddysh all had two points.
The Otters are back in action Saturday night in Saginaw at 7:35 p.m. before heading home for a Thanksgiving showdown with Mississauga.
