Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, INâ grant Williams pitched another gem as the Evansville Otters beat the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 9-1.
The Otters got all the runs they needed in the second inning, when with the bases loaded, Terrence McClain, making his first plate appearance since coming off injured reserve earlier in the day, singled into right field. A Brian McKenna groundout made it 2-0.
Evansville scored two more in the fifth and got a two-run homer by Sean Flynn in the sixth to make it 6-0. The Otters added a run in the seventh and topped off their scoring with a pair in the eighth. Mid-Missouri got a run in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough, as the night once again belonged to the Otters' ace.
Williams was superb, pitching eight innings, allowing just four hits in the contest. In two starts against the Mavericks this season, Williams has now pitched 17 innings, allowing no runs, while striking out 17.
The Otters will send Andre Simpson to the mound tomorrow for game two of the series against Greg Russell for Mid-Missouri.
