Erie, Pa. - The Erie Otters (1-6-0-0) played a strong 40 minutes against one of the top teams in the CHL until the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors turned it on in the third period with three unanswered goals to defeat the Otters, 4-2, Wednesday night at Tullio Arena.

Goals by Derek Schoenmakers, Dylan DeMelo and Spencer Cobbold in the third gave the No. 3-ranked Majors the juice to take two points from the Otters.

Connor Brown scored his second goal in as many games to put the Otters on the board with four minutes, six seconds left in the first. The rookie forward caused a turnover at the Majors line and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Spencer Martin from the right circle.

Sergey Kuptsov then tied the game for the Majors with a power play goal in the final minute of the first.

Chris Marchese put the Otters back in front with a power play goal of his own. Travis Wood fired a shot that was blocked in front to Marchese, who blasted a shot through Martin's blocker for his second goal of the season six minutes, 37 seconds in the second period.

The Otters would have other opportunities, including a major power play that straddled the second and third period, but could not convert. The Majors tied it up with a power play goal from Schoenmakers three minutes, 18 seconds into the final period.

After Tyler McCarthy was sent off for charging, the Majors scored the deciding goal on the ensuing man advantage courtesy of DeMelo at eight minutes, 12 seconds. Cobbold added insurance at even-strength late in the game to seal the game for the Majors.

Chris Festarini made 28 saves as he took the loss, while counterpart Martin stopped 29 in winning his OHL debut.

Next up for the Otters is a road game in London against the No. 1-ranked Knights Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be live on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan and online at ottershockey.com (courtesy of the James H. Cross Company).

The Otters return home Saturday night to host the Windsor Spitfires. The first 1,000 fans receive a Sondre Olden poster courtesy of Erie County Recycling. For tickets, call (814) 452-4857.
