Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

It didn't take long for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors to get back in the win column.

Dylan DeMelo had a goal and two assists and Spencer Martin made 29 saves for his first OHL victory to lead the Majors to a 4-2 win over the Erie Otters Wednesday night, giving the Majors their eighth win of the season against just one loss.

After losing for the first time this season Monday afternoon in Brampton, the Majors bounced back by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to snare the win on the road as they improved their league-best point total to 16.

"When you consider all of the injuries we've been battling and the trip up here, it was a pretty good all around effort," Mississauga General Manager/Coach James Boyd said. "It was huge for Spencer Martin to get his first win, he played great, and we showed a lot of character by coming back to score three goals in the third period like that."

The Majors power play was pretty impressive as well, as they scored three times with the extra man on their seven chances and that turned out to be the difference before 2,218 fans at Tullio Arena.

Connor Brown opened the scoring at 15:54 of the first period, unassisted, to give the Otters a 1-0 lead. Sergey Kuptsov got the Majors on the board with his sixth goal of the year, a power play goal with 49 seconds remaining in the opening frame assisted by David Corrente and DeMelo, to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.

Chris Marchese restored the one goal lead for the Otters with a power play goal at 6:37 of the second period from Travis Wood and Sondre Olden which closed out the second period scoring. Shots were deadlocked 23-23 through 40 minutes of play.

Derek Schoenmakers drew the Majors even once again with a power play goal just 3:18 into the third period, his third goal of the season, assisted by Riley Brace and DeMelo to make it a 2-2 game. Just under five minutes later, DeMelo gave the Majors their first lead of the night with his third point of the game - the Majors third power play goal of the night - from Corrente and Justin Rasmussen at 8:12 to take a 3-2 lead. Spenser Cobbold chipped in with his first of the season and first OHL goal, assisted by Scott Teskey, to put the Majors up 4-2 lead with 4:07 remaining in the third period, which closed out the scoring.

First round draft pick Martin got his first OHL start with the Majors, making 29 saves for his first win. Otters' Christopher Festarini allowed four goals on 32 shots in the loss.

The Majors out-shot the Otters 32-31 on the night and converted on three of their seven power play opportunities. Erie went 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

The Majors play host to the Oshawa Generals on Friday night at the Hershey Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online through www.ticketmaster.ca, or by visiting the Hershey Centre Box Office.
